Module 02 - Boating Rules, Regulations, and Equipment

Will you be lending your boat or PWC?

If you plan on lending your boat to a friend it’s important to understand that both you (the owner) and the person borrowing your boat (the operator) are responsible for the boat.

Before lending your boat, you should ensure that the operator:

Is a responsible person
Has obtained a Pleasure Craft Operator Card, or has another acceptable form of proof of competency such as an approved marine certificate
Understands Canada’s boating laws and regulations
Wears an approved life jacket or PFD
Understands navigation and right-of-way rules
Understands the handling characteristics of your boat
Knows about the location of local hazards or obstructions
Knows the location of safety equipment on your boat and how to use it
