PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE FOR SUP BOARDS

 

Don’t let a leaky hull spoil a great day on the water. Be a responsible paddler and regularly inspect and maintain your SUP board and paddle.

Hull integrity and water tightness are crucial for paddle craft. Keeping your SUP board in good condition can prevent hull leaks that can place you in dangerous situation.

Maintaining Your SUP Board

To maintain your SUP board, you should complete the following procedure regularly:

  • Inspect the craft for water tightness by checking the hull, gaskets and hatch covers.
  • Patch any holes using a material that matches the type of hull.
  • Clean your board regularly using plain water or a non-phosphate detergent.
  • Store the board off the ground and out of direct sunlight. 
  • Check and tighten the screws and deck fittings regularly.
  • Treat the board with an appropriate UV inhibitor.
  • Inspect the paddle for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Inspect the craft for water tightness.
  • Any holes or ‘dings’ in a SUP board should be patched using a material suited to the composition of the board.
  • Remove, clean and store your boards fins after use. 
  • Check the vent plugs for signs of wear and tear.

Note: Each SUP board has specific maintenance techniques depending on whether it’s plastic, inflatable or a soft-top style. Be sure to check with the manufacturer for specific care instructions.
