Once you pass the online exam you can print your completion certificate and register for a skills test with an OHV trainer from the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation. 

Who needs it?

Persons 16 years old and younger are required to obtain off-road education if they do not hold a driver’s license and will be riding on U.S. Forest Service roads in Idaho. All riders in Idaho who are under the age of 16 must be under direct supervision of an adult when operating on non-local jurisdiction roads.

WHAT IS THE CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION?

  The Certificate of Completion is proof that you have successfully completed the online portion of the ATVsmart! course. You must show this Certificate at your in-person Skills Test in order to complete the Test and get your Idaho OHV Safety Certificate.  

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BECOME A CERTIFIED OFF-HIGHWAY VEHICLE RIDER IN IDAHO?


The standard cost for a single off-roader is $29.95. This includes the online course, exam, and your certification. We offer Friends and Family deals:

WHAT IS THE PASSING GRADE FOR THE COURSE?

  You must achieve a grade of 80% (8/10) or higher to pass each module quiz. Then you must also achieve a grade of 80% (48/60) or higher to pass the final exam.  

HOW OLD TO YOU HAVE TO BE TO GET CERTIFIED IN IDAHO?

HOW LONG IS THE OFF-ROAD SAFETY COURSE?

  It will take approximately 3 hours to complete the course (including module quizzes) and final exam.  

WHEN I COMPLETE THIS ONLINE COURSE, DO I NEED TO TAKE HANDS-ON ATV TRAINING?

  Yes. In addition to completing the online portion of the ATV Safety Course, there is a required hands-on riding course or Skills Test. Upon successful completion of both the online and hands-on portions of the course, participants receive an OHV Safety Certificate.
