What is a Nevada Boater Safety Card?

The Nevada Boater Safety Card  is proof that a boater has successfully passed the Nevada Boating Safety Test. All boat operators born on or after Jan. 1, 1983 are required to get certified to legally operate a boat powered by a motor of 15 hp or more. 

Is the Nevada Boater Education Card the same as a Boating License?

The Nevada Boater Safety Card is proof of successful completion of the Nevada state-approved boater education course. The card is commonly referred to as a “boating license”. However, unlike a license the Boater Safety Card does not expire, and does not need to be renewed.

Who needs a Nevada Boater Safety Card?

Boat operators born on or after January 1, 1983 required a Nevada Boater Safety card, if they wish to operate a boat powered by a motor of 15 hp or more within the state. . 

Who is exempt from having to obtain a Nevada Boater Safety Card?

  • Any person operating a boat powered by a motor or less than 15 hp
  • Ay person operating on a waterway that is not an interstate waterway
  • Non-residents who are at least 8 years of age and meet the boater education requirements within their state of residence

What is the fine for not having a card?

No. The state of Nevada does not require boaters to have a driver’s license in order to operate a boat. Do I need a Boater Safety Card for all types of boats?

How long does the Nevada Boater Safety Course take?

This law applies to operators of motorized boats, but not in all states to operators of personal watercraft (PWCs). Always check the boating laws in the state you plan to visit prior to operating a boat or PWC there.
