DO I NEED A BOATER EDUCATION CARD in Alaska?
 
Alaska does not require boating education. You can take this course to save on insurance or to boat in states that require a card.

IS IT SAFE FOR BOATERS TO APPROACH MARINE MAMMALS IN ALASKA, LIKE WHALES?
 
We believe any person who operates a motorized boat in the United States, including commercial boat operators, should participate in Boater Education. The BOATsmart! Safe Boating Course covers all aspects of safe boating and responsible boat operation on U.S. waterways. Boaters of any age and ability are encouraged to participate in the BOATsmart! certification program.
 
WHO PATROLS ALASKA’S WATERS AND ENFORCES THE STATE’S BOATING LAWS?

I LOST MY ALASKA BOATER EDUCATION CARD. CAN IT BE REPLACED?
 
Yes. If your BOATsmart! Boater Education Card is missing or has been destroyed, you can easily purchase a Replacement Card from BOATsmart! for $9.95 per card. Give us a call and we will send you a new BOATsmart! Card in the mail. Toll free 1-877-655-7778.
 
WILL MY WASHINGTON BOATING EDUCATION I.D. CARD BE VALID FOR BOATING IN OTHER STATES?
 
Yes! The BOATsmart! Card is accepted in 40 other states, which extend reciprocity to certified boaters. This law applies to operators of motorized boats (who have taken and passed a NASBLA approved boating safety course), but does not apply in all states to operators of personal watercraft (PWCs). Always check the boating laws in the state you plan to visit before operating a boat or PWC there.
 
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT TAKES ME LONGER THAN 3-HOURS TO COMPLETE THE BOATSMART! COURSE? WILL I NEED TO START OVER?
 
The 3-hour timer is only a minimum requirement. You’re free to spend as much time as you need in the BOATsmart! Knowledge Base before taking the Final Test.
 
DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE 3-HOUR ONLINE ALASKA BOATSMART! COURSE BEFORE I CAN ACCESS THE FINAL TEST?
 
Yes. The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) requires boaters to complete the full 3-hour online study guide in order to access the online version of the Boater Education Test. However, you don’t have to complete the entire Study Guide in one sitting. BOATsmart! will automatically track and save your progress. Once you’ve completed all modules and quizzes you’ll gain access to Alaska’s Official Boater Education Card test
 
WHERE CAN I TAKE ALASKA’S BOATING SAFETY TEST?
 
Yes. The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA)Take the state-approved Boating Test right here on this website. Keep in mind, you must complete the BOATsmart! Course prior to accessing the Official Test. But there’s no rush, you don’t have to complete the entire Study Guide at in one sitting. BOATsmart! will automatically track and save your progress. Once you’ve completed the course you’ll be able to immediately access the test.
