All motorized and non-motorized pleasure craft built in Canada or imported into Canada after August 1, 1981, must have a Hull Identification Number (HIN).

A HIN is a 12 character serial number used to help identify boats and to help find vessels that have been lost or stolen. The HIN must be permanently marked on the outside upper right corner of the boat’s transom, or as close to that area as possible.
