Module 08 - HUNTING PREPARATION

THE IMPORTANCE OF HUNTER OR "BLAZE" ORANGE

Nothing you wear when hunting is more important than your blaze orange clothing. Not your boots, not your camouflage, not even your thermal underwear (and you already know how strongly we feel about good boots, good camo, and good underwear). We wear orange clothing on a hunt because it increases our visibility to other hunters. It’s a no-brainer—wearing blaze orange improves your level of safety significantly when you’re in the field.

Most states will actually require you to wear a specific amount of blaze orange (in square inches). If you’re caught NOT wearing the right amount while hunting, you’ll face a fine. You’ll also have to face the fact that your camo stinks because you were spotted when you’re supposed to be invisible. If this happens to you, you’ll be shopping for better camo and for your missing blaze orange gear, on top of having a fine to pay ($$$). So, stay safe and save your money—be prepared with good camo and the correct amount of blaze orange clothing before you go hunting.

Check This Out: No Deer Costumes

Never do anything that might make other hunters mistake you for game. Like wearing brown, tan or white clothing—even if you’re wearing blaze orange. You should also never sling a deer over your shoulder to carry it out of the woods. Drag that deer out, or consider yourself a target.
