CROSSING A SLOPE
Up or down aren’t the only ways to travel over hills. Sometimes you may find yourself riding over a sloped area of terrain. This isn’t a difficult manoeuvre to do, but it can be very dangerous if the terrain is even a little bit icy. Slipping and overturning can occur when moving forward at an angle. Here’s how to do it safely:
STEP 1
Manoeuvre yourself into the kneeling position, keeping the leg closest to the uphill direction planted firmly on the running board and the leg in the downhill direction positioned underneath you on the seat.
STEP 2
Shift your weight towards the upper part of the hill to give the track more grip and to ensure your snowmobile doesn't begin to slip or roll downhill.
STEP 3
Proceed cautiously if the hill is covered in hard, packed snow. Packed snow may cause your sled to slide which can be very dangerous. If possible, always try to cross the hill in an area that has fluffy or loosely packed snow to provide the track with more traction.
STEP 4
Avoid traveling across a slope with a passenger but if you must, you should follow the recommended procedure in your owner’s manual.
