Module 02 - Before Heading Out

MAP IT OUT

Buy a map and get to know the trails and landforms for the area where you’ll be riding. If you aren’t sure where you’re allowed to ride, call the local authorities to see if there are any restrictions or regulations in effect. Some areas may also have seasonal trail closures. Know before you go.

You should also find out about local regulations for any sound level restrictions, age restrictions, training requirements and registration requirements. If you’re from out of state, check with the local authorities to see if you’ll need to obtain a permit to ride in that area.

Determine which trail your group should take based on the capability of the other riders in your group and the capability of their sleds. Remember, different types of snowmobiles (and riders) will have different capabilities and limitations depending on the terrain. Read your map carefully and make the right choice as a group.
