Module 07 - Emergency Prep & Outdoor Survival

PREPARING FOR THE WORST – WHY WE DO IT

With cell phones, Apps and GPS technology, there’s no need to learn the art of survival, right? WRONG.

Here’s why: Imagine you’re hitting some awesome fresh powder with a buddy in the backcountry and then all of a sudden, your friend has a terrible accident. He’s lost control of his sled and slammed into a tree. He’s badly injured and you’re worried that his neck may be broken. After providing first aid to your buddy right away (which takes SKILL - but don’t worry, we’ll teach you that), you’ll reach for your phone to call for help only to discover that:

  1. Your cell battery is dead.
  2. You’re deep in the woods and have no reception.
  3. You forgot your phone in the truck.
  4. Your buddy’s cell phone battery is drained too.

So, what happens now?

Stay calm. Our survival training will keep you alive out there and that Trip Plan you left at home with a reliable person will get you rescued.

Imagine spending two days lost outside in the cold, dealing with injuries and with no food. Now imagine how great it would be to see the lights of a rescue plane flashing in the sky after those two days. You’ll never regret taking a few minutes to write down your trip details.

RIDER SAFETY TIP: THINK OF HOME

Always be prepared for the worst. Would you want your dad, mom or your best friend to find out that you haven’t returned from a snowmobile trip and discover that they have no information about where they should be looking for you? We owe it to our loved ones to leave a Trip Plan behind us and to be properly prepared for emergency situations.
